Overview

The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation (“A Corp”) “PC(USA)”, based in Louisville Kentucky, serve with mid-councils, congregations, worshipping communities, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ. Approximately 400 individuals, diverse in race, age, gender, sexual orientation, faith, skills, and more, come together as colleagues to work for a world where justice reigns, peace prevails, and God’s love extends to all people. This community comprises the staff of national entities: the Presbyterian Life & Witness, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women, Investment and Loan Program, and the Administrative Services Group.

Basic Commitment: This position calls for a commitment to the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as noted in its theological confessions, the Book of Order, and the actions of the General Assembly.

Position Purpose: The Manager provides strategic oversight for the 1001 New Worshiping Communities initiative, working collaboratively with colleagues in Thriving Mid Councils to support mid-councils and congregations in starting and growing new worshiping communities. As a connector, the Manager builds partnerships across teams and communities, fostering shared ownership and new approaches to this work. Grounded in a learning orientation, the Manager leads and develops the 1001 staff, cultivating a team culture where curiosity and creativity propel the work forward. 

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Strategy: Develop, communicate, and oversee vision, strategy, and budget for 1001 NWC.
  2. Staff: Provide leadership and oversight for 1001 staff. Work in collaboration with colleagues in Thriving Mid Councils.
  3. Mid-Council Support: Support presbyteries, synods, and congregations as they provide the primary care and accountability for NWCs.
  4. Programs: With 1001 staff, create and support opportunities for apprenticeships, assessments, coaching, training, and funding for NWCs.
  5. Communication: Create and maintain avenues for ongoing contact between the 1001 staff, mid-councils, and NWCs.
  6. Research: Develop and carry out strategies and practices for researching and reporting on the impact of the 1001 initiative.
  7. Administration: Establish and maintain healthy practices of reporting, compliance, and partnership for the 1001 initiative.

Requirements:

Education: Master of Divinity or experiential equivalent 

Experience: 5+ years of work with new worshiping communities; 5+ years of work with mid-councils 

Required Skills: 

  • Excellent writing and speaking skills; ability to work independently; excellent organizational and planning skills 
  • Competency with electronic media; ability to handle multiple projects; financial acumen 

Required Competencies: Experience working with diverse groups and cultures; ability to work as part of a team; entrepreneurial experience; experience with mid-councils

Helpful Skills: 

  • Have a deep understanding and commitment to cultural and racial ethnic inclusiveness. Values diverse groups, ethnicities, genders, communities, cultural constituencies and points of view. Able to relate well to people from all walks of life and of varying theological perspectives. 
  • Ability to speak one or more languages other than English very helpful

Physical Requirements: Ability to travel frequently; ability to work weekend and evening hours
