The St. Louis Public Library’s Buder Branch is seeking a Public Technology Assistant. Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis.
This role requires someone who is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service and is comfortable working with the public, providing technology-related assistance and heading technology classes to the community.
In this role you will:
Assist customers with the utilization of Library computers, personal devices or other equipment and troubleshoot Library equipment for customers and staff
Create training materials for staff that assist with new technology
Plan and lead training sessions and programs for staff and customers
Participate in regular team discussions regarding technology, Library services, customer assistance, and other topics
Communicate with managers regarding needed maintenance or Help Desk tickets for issues with technology
Schedule and provide one-on-one assistance for customers through Tech Connect appointments
You will need to be:
Friendly, patient, and able to build relationships at all levels
Strategic about assisting customers with different levels of technological proficiency
Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff
Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities
You will need to have:
At least six months of customer service experience
An associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferred; a high school diploma, or GED.
Strong communication, writing, speaking, and organizational skills.
Comfort with using and learning technology as the Library continues to evolve.

Hours for this position are:
40 hours/week - Sundays 12:55 - 5:10, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays 8:30-6:15, Saturdays 8:40-5:10. Hours subject to change.
About Buder Library:
Located in the heart of the St. Louis South Hampton neighborhood in southwest St. Louis, the Buder Library is a vital community anchor surrounded by popular shops and restaurants. This branch serves as a central hub for lifelong learning, offering quiet study areas, reservable meeting rooms, and an extensive collection of books and media. With dedicated programming for all ages—including children's activities and literacy initiatives—the library is committed to fostering health, education, and social connection within the neighborhood.
Originally built in 1922. Buder Library has moved twice since its original location.
Housed in a large building with 4 levels totalling 40,000 square feet
Collection size is 80,000 items (includes juvenile and adult materials)
1 computer lab (holds 12 computers and one copier)
3 meeting rooms (one auditorium, one smaller conference room, and a multipurpose room)

Buder is part of St. Louis Hills, a dynamic and busy neighborhood situated in the southwest area of St. Louis. In 2023, Buder celebrated its 25-year anniversary at Hampton Ave and Sutherland Ave, surrounded by a thriving retail and restaurant scene.
